How-To: The Best At-Home Spa Day

Who wants a full body exfoliation, facial, and some peace and quiet?! I think we all do! Self-care is extremely important, and while we’re all blessed with an abundance of time, we can indulge ourselves in a luscious, at-home, spa treatment, and here’s how:

No matter how in-depth you want to enjoy your day, the first thing you should always do is set the mood. I did this by lighting a candle! The one I’m using right now is a Lavender Mint scent by JerseyGypsyCandleCo. This fragrance filled the space with the perfect relaxing scent to indulge in some self-care.

Regardless of a self-care day, you should always wash your face. For this, I like to use Formula 10.0.6, it’s super cheap but it also works really well so it’s a win-win. Today I used “It’s The Buzz” exfoliating face wash. This particular face wash is made with coffee oil and hemp seed oil to both smooth and balance the skin. They have a bunch of other face washes too to suit your skin's needs. This cleansed all of the oils from my skin and prepped it for the next step.

After washing, I took my steamer and filled it with distilled water. I don’t have a facial steamer so I used my clothing steamer! I made sure to clean it out before using it on my face, just to make sure nothing gross would get into my skin. It’s important to use distilled water instead of tap water too, again, so we don’t invite gross things into our skin. I steamed my face for about 10 minutes then then added a face mask. Today I used “Mask of Magnaminty” from Lush. This mask uses peppermint oil and honey to both stimulate and refresh while also calming problem areas. I also use the mask on my chest as well. After leaving this for 10 minutes, it was time to hop in the shower.

Before showering, and while the mask was sitting on my face, I took a dry brush and exfoliated my skin. If you have sensitive skin, I don’t recommend this since dry exfoliating can be harsh. This took off all the dead skin on my legs and arms, allowing body wash and moisturizer to sink in a lot better. Be sure to brush in circular motions!

While in the shower, I used epsom salts, infused with essential oils, to further exfoliate. My favorite oils are from DoTerra, but use whatever oils you like! I washed off the mask and let my hair soak in a hair mask while I breathed in the essential oils. The steam of the shower opened up my sinuses and pores and left me feeling pampered.

After I turned the water off, but before I left the shower, I made sure to self-tan with Jergens Natural Glow in Shower Firming Moisturizer. This is my favorite self-tanner for a multitude of reasons. The first being that it’s used while your body is still wet from the shower. Moisturizing at this time allows the lotion to mix with the water and further hydrate. This can be done with any moisturizer as well! The second reason I love this particular product, is that it’s firming. Giving your skin that extra tightness helps you to feel more confident, especially when you’re tan. The last reason why I love this product is that it helps a pale girl like me feel  a little less translucent and a little more glowy.

A day of relaxing fragrances, exfoliating, and moisturizing, I certainly felt pampered. There’s a lot more I could have done to have an even longer experience, but maybe next time. Until then, how have you been keeping up with self-care lately? What products do you use or want to try?
